BMI

What is Body Mass Index?

The Body Mass index is a weight-to-height ratio that classifies health risk according to the Canadian and United States weight classification system. According to the 2006 Obesity Guidelines patients with a BMI over 35 are at increased risk of a variety of health problems including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, coronary artery disease, stroke, osteoarthritis and certain forms of cancer.

To determine your BMI, use our formula below or our BMI calculator at the bottom of the page. If your BMI is over 35 and you are interested in Gastric Banding Surgery we recommend you come in for a consultation.

BMI = weight in kg divided by (height in meter) squared
