Glossary
BMI - Body Mass Index calculated as weight in kg divided by the squared of height in meters.
Gastric band - a silicone based round band around the inlet of the stomach.
Lap band - a short term for a gastric band placed laparoscopically.
Laparoscopic - minimally invasive techniques which use small cuts or holes instead of the large incision to do the surgery.
Metabolic Disease - disease due to obesity which increases burden to your heart, kidney etc.
Outpatient - the patient goes home the same day without staying in the hospital overnight.
Preoperative - before surgery.
Postoperative - after surgery.
